A Despicable Health Care Tax Hike Scheme
March 2, 2016
The Fresno Bee published an editorial Wednesday urging me to vote for a health care tax hike. That’s the wrong thing to do.
Valley Strength in Numbers
March 2, 2015
For far too long, the needs of the Central Valley have been ignored in the halls of California’s Capitol. That’s why a bipartisan delegation of state representatives from the Valley has formed a new bipartisan caucus.
Radical environmental policies hurt the poor
February 24, 2015
Californians all want clean air to breathe and clean water to drink, but how we get there cannot come at the expense of our most impoverished communities. Radical Environmentalists don’t seem to agree. They are blatantly ignoring the real human suffering that their policies, mandates and regulations are inflicting on already-struggling middle-class and low-income families.
Keeping a Close Watch on Groundwater Regulation Implementation
February 15, 2015
When it comes to ensuring a long-term water supply for California, there is no question that the Legislature and the voters took a big step forward last year by approving a $7 billion bond measure, which will help build a much needed water supply infrastructure to serve the needs of 38 million Californians. The investment was long overdue and I was proud to be able to co-author the final bipartisan bond package.
High-Speed Rail not only breaking promises, but busting family budgets
February 6, 2015
The governor drove a shovel through the heart of our Central Valley when he “broke ground” earlier this month on the debacle known as High-Speed Rail (HSR). He also left a trail of broken promises made to California voters when, in 2008, they approved Proposition 1A to fund HSR.
The Valley Needs the California Emergency Drought Relief Act of 2014
January 15, 2015
In December, I joined a bipartisan coalition of state legislators from the Valley urging the passage of the California Emergency Drought Relief Act of 2014. The following letter, authored by State Senator Jean Fuller, was sent to United States Senators Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer
Build It -- Dam It
December 15, 2014
"Build It -- Dam It" has been the theme of the Auburn Dam Council since the mid 1980's, but could easily be adopted by our parched Central Valley, which is in desperate need of a reliable source of water.
Sneaky Gas Tax Kicks Valley Folks When We Are Down
October 29, 2014
California farmers are already being hit hard by the effects of the worst drought this state has seen in decades, and now we will have to face a new tax unless the Legislature does something about it.
Bipartisan Voice of the Valley Heard on the Water Bond
October 29, 2014
With no time to spare, the California Legislature came together in a bipartisan way that is rarely seen in the halls of the State Capitol, and approved a $7.5 billion water bond.
