Vidak Calls Assembly Hearing on High-Speed Rail 'Another Pitiful Whitewash'

Wednesday, January 27, 2016

Sacramento – Senator Andy Vidak issued the following statement in response to today’s Assembly Budget Subcommittee #3 hearing on High-Speed Rail:

Despite Assemblymember Jim Patterson’s (R-Fresno) tenacious effort to make today’s “oversight” hearing on High-Speed Rail a genuine review, the majority party rigged it so that it was just another pitiful whitewash.

Although Vidak urged of the committee chair to invite opponents of High-Speed Rail equal time to testify, the committee allowed testimony by appointees of the governor, his administration and an a employee of High Speed Rail for well over an hour.

High-Speed Rail opponents from the Valley, as well as Assemblymember Patty Lopez (D- San Fernando), were relegated to public comment segment at the end of the hearing, and were only given a minute each to speak.
